The best tip I can give anyone is create a food journal. Journaling has helped me more than anything. You wouldn't believe how much food you eat that you never remember eating. And soda, and tea, and coffee, and all the other stuff you drink that's chock full of calories that you never really think about, because you're always more concerned with food. I have a journal where I write down everything I eat every day, and it's the best way I can see exactly how many calories I've eaten so far, and how many calories I have left for the day.
